WELCOME FROM THE HEAD TEACHER
CARING BELIEVING ACHIEVING
Welcome to Blacklaw Primary School website!

I am extremely proud of the ethos and life of the school and hope this website enables you to feel part of the Blacklaw community!

Pupil wellbeing, learning and achievement drive everything that we do. Pupils are encouraged and supported to achieve their potential and to develop skills for life, learning and work. Our job, in partnership with parents, is to build resilience in our children and provide them with the tools needed to be successful in whatever they choose to do, to enable each child to discover the joy of learning, and to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment.

I feel very privileged to be the Head Teacher of Blacklaw Primary School and to be able to spend my days with such wonderful children and families. We have high expectations at Blacklaw and I attribute this to the dedication, enthusiasm and commitment of our staff and the strong relationship that we have developed between staff, children and their families.

Our website aims to give you a glimpse of what goes on in school, as well as provide useful information and links to learning to enable each family to support their child to maximise their own potential.

For further information please contact the school by email or directly by telephone.  We will be pleased to hear from you.

Ms Laura Crossan
Head Teacher

Tennis Success! - 08.5.22
We could not be prouder of our Primary 4 team coming first in the East Kilbride & Strathaven tennis competition this morning. There were some fantastic skills on display and the sun shone on our team as they played wonderfully. Huge congratulations to the pupils and thank you to Mrs Hall for her dedication in supporting them at this event. Well done children, the finals beckon! Head over to our Twitter feed to see some action shots from today's tournament.

Happy Holidays - 01.04.22
All the staff at Blacklaw Primary School would like to wish our pupils and their families a wonderful Spring Break and a very happy Easter. The school will be closed to pupils until Tuesday 19th April and we can't wait to see everyone back after a happy and restful holiday.

Spring Disco - 01.04.22
We would like to thank our PTA members for organising a fantastic Spring Disco last night for our pupils. This was our first celebration like this in a LONG time and the children had so much fun. Thank you to the staff who came along to support this event and to share in the fun.

Parent Council & PTA

All Blacklaw Primary School parents automatically become members of the parent forum when their child starts school. Being part of the parent forum enables any parent to get involved with school life in whatever way they can, whether helping out on school trips, supporting an extra-curricular sports activity, sharing workplace knowledge with children in the classroom or as a representative on the Parent Council. At Blacklaw Primary School we also have a Parent Teacher Association that helps with fundraising for the school. But it’s not just about raising money, the PTA also offers parents the opportunity to get involved in a range of activities. Whether helping at a school disco, lending a hand with the school library or just enjoying the many social and fundraising activities Blacklaw PTA has to offer, we welcome each and every one of you.

The Parent Council and PTA meet monthly, during term-time, and welcome all parent forum members to come along and hear about what’s going on at the school. Links to the meetings will be shared on our School App for Parents and on Twitter. If you’d like to get involved on a more regular basis, please consider becoming a member of the Blacklaw Parent Council. At the moment, our meetings are held virtually and you can find the link to our next meeting below. We may soon see our PTA and Parent Council groups combining forces to work together to work for you, for your child and for the school.

Pupil Council
Our Pupil Council gives pupils a voice and empowers them to make changes for the better in our school. The Pupil Council is comprised of two elected pupils from each class. Pupil Councillors attend regular meetings and report back to their classmates to keep them informed of upcoming events.

House Captains
The school operates a House System which helps to unite Blacklaw Primary through activities centred around our school values. There are four houses:
BURNS     CASTLE     SALTIRE     THISTLE
House Captains take responsibility for organising assemblies, setting house challenges and games.

JRSO
The Junior Road Safety Officer (JRSO) programme puts children in control of highlighting road safety issues within their school. Our Primary 6 JRSOs are responsible for delivering safety presentations to classes at assemblies and running road safety competitions.

Tech Team
Our Tech Team helps with technologies across the school, not only as experts in using iPads, C-Touch and Chromebooks but also as championing technology to enhance our learning.
